From Dietary Aide to Dream Home Guide

Sylvia’s path into new home sales didn’t begin in a sales office or at a construction site. In fact, it started in an entirely different industry. She began her professional life as a certified Dietary Aide, working in a care-centered role that taught her the importance of service and empathy. Even earlier, she learned the basics of business and relationship-building from her family’s used car lot, where hard work and connecting with people were core values. 

“Those early experiences taught me how to serve others with heart and determination,” Sylvia explains. “Skills that unexpectedly laid the perfect foundation for my transition into new home sales.”

That meaningful transition came during a pivotal moment in her life—as a single mother of three. 

“My children have always been my greatest motivation, inspiring me to pursue a life and career they could be proud of. The desire to give them a stable and loving home naturally shaped my passion for helping others do the same,” she says. “That deep, personal connection to the meaning of ‘home’, paired with my background in sales and the incredible support of my Sales Managers who have always believed in me, help me thrive every day.”

Finding Purpose at Riverside

Sylvia’s decision to join Riverside Homebuilders was rooted in more than just finding a job—it was about finding purpose and community. 

“I believe with all my heart that God led me here,” she shares. “At Riverside, I’ve found more than just a career—I’ve found a purpose, a team that feels like family and a company that shares my values.”

That sense of purpose shines through in every interaction she has with buyers. For Sylvia, the most fulfilling part of her role is guiding families through one of the biggest milestones of their lives.

“This is the most soul-satisfying part of my role,” she says. 

A Day in the Life of a Community Sales Manager

Ask Sylvia what a typical day looks like, and she’ll tell you—there isn’t one. That’s part of what keeps her energized and engaged. From straightening signs and prepping model homes in the morning to finalizing contracts with excited buyers at the dining table, her work blends strategy, service and nonstop hustle. Her responsibilities also include coordinating with the construction team on home progress, managing walkthroughs and build timelines, resolving any issues that arise and preparing for community events. 

Sylvia explains that many first-time buyers often come in expecting a quick, HGTV-style process—and she is there to gently guide them toward the reality, and the reward, of new home construction. 

“Many expect to pick a floor plan, choose their favorite finishes and move in quickly,” she explains. “In reality, they’re surprised by how many decisions they have to make and how much they have to rely on you.”

That’s where Sylvia shines, though. She builds trust through education, proactive communication and consistent support.

“I take time to educate buyers early—explaining the full process, timeline and what’s included versus what’s customizable, so there are no surprises,” she says. “I also keep communication proactive and transparent, checking in regularly with updates, even if it’s just to say that everything is on track. My goal is to make sure they feel heard, supported and confident in every choice they make—because buying a home should feel empowering, not overwhelming.”

Lessons, Highlights and Hidden Talents

Among the many lessons Sylvia has learned at Riverside Homebuilders, one stands out in particular—the power of setting clear expectations early and often.

“It’s helped me grow by strengthening my communication skills and building deeper trust with buyers,” she says. “By being proactive from the start, I’ve been able to reduce confusion, prevent misunderstandings and create a smoother, more positive experience for everyone.”

As for what she enjoys most? The strong sense of support and collaboration she feels throughout the company. 

“Everyone is willing to help, share knowledge and celebrate each other’s wins. It truly feels like a team that wants you to succeed.”

When she’s not helping families find their dream home, Sylvia also finds joy in music and movement.

“I love music and dancing—it’s what lifts my spirit and gets me through each day,” she explains. “Whether I’m starting my morning or winding down after a long day, turning on music and moving to the rhythm helps me reset, recharge and stay connected to joy.  It’s my happy place, and it brings so much light into everything I do.”
