Homebuyer Spotlight: Finding Your Forever Home
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit the Fort-Worth area, David C. knew it was time for him and his wife to upgrade from their downtown condo. They were looking for more space, more privacy and ultimately a “forever home” where they could spend the rest of their lives if things go right.
With their wishlist in hand -- and a little extra time to look -- they started the search for properties in the area that might fit their needs. The driving force for David was family. He and his wife wanted a home where their adult daughter could stay while still allowing for parents and in-laws to visit for a while. That meant they needed somewhere spacious and likely rural which led them to the small suburb of Godley on the urging of a family friend who doubled as their realtor.
At first, they were just looking for land where they could eventually build, but it turned out that Riverside Homebuilders had already built their dream home and it was move-in ready. The former model home sat on an acre of land which brought David back to the small-town start he had back near the panhandle and kept them close enough to their jobs in the city as well.
“After working and living in a big city with nearly 6 million people in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, it’s a nice change of pace to get away and decompress,” David said. “It sounds kind of cliche, but it’s turned out to really be true.”
David said he and his wife had bought a few other homes in their 20 years in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, but without a contingency this time around the sale was simple. They closed in 30 days, moved out of the condo and had already enjoyed two months in their new home by the time we caught up with them for this interview.
“It was seamless and smooth,” David said about working with Riverside Homebuilders. “They couldn’t have been nicer. Plus, the house is solid, safe and secure. It’s exactly what we wanted for our forever home.”
Since they bought the former model, they didn’t have any say in the original design, but David said the spacious open floor plan was the highlight for him. Especially after coming from the condo, the easy flow from the kitchen to the living room gave them plenty of space to entertain family and friends. Plus, the single-story makes it easily accessible for years to come which was a big advantage after years of stairs in the upper floor condo.

“Just wanted to let you all know that the lending team referred to us by Kevin in Oak Ridge did a phenomenal job throughout the entire process. The GMB-Walton team is who we were working with. Donnie Walton had some not so enthusiastic phone calls from me and some hoops to jump through and he did it with professionalism and was so positive throughout this process. Never has this been a wonderful process in our life it can be stressful and so personal beings they have our most personal information and details. Please acknowledge them and their efforts.” Laura Johnson
