How to Make the Most of Your Owner’s Suite Design

April 19, 2022

Your owner’s suite is the place you go to relax and unwind after a long day, get a restful night’s sleep, and wake up in the morning feeling refreshed and ready to start a new day. Each of our carefully-crafted floor plans feature sizable owner’s suites with so much room for creativity and personalization—and it's important to transform this space into an inviting, relaxing and functional retreat for you to enjoy to the fullest extent. At Riverside Homebuilders, we understand that it can be tough to know where to start with your design and how to put it all together—which is why we’ve come up with a few simple tips on how to create the owner’s suite you’ve always envisioned in your Riverside home.

Create a plan

Before paint colors are chosen and decor is purchased, it’s important to first make a plan for what you want to achieve in your owner’s suite. Is it a must for you to have a more tranquil and relaxed feel in your bedroom, and is maximum storage space a priority for you? What about a color palette, bed size, finishes and any additional furniture? It’s essential to first figure out your needs for your dream owner’s suite, from the bedroom to the closet and the bathroom.

Draw inspiration from pinterest boards or your favorite interior designer, and create a mood board or personalized list to serve as your rough draft before starting this exciting project. Once you’ve officially decided on fabrics, furnishings, colors and everything in between that’s important to you and your design—then it’s time to get the ball rolling on creating the owner’s suite of your dreams.

Keep a neutral base

When you’re making a plan for your perfect owner’s suite design, you may be having a hard time deciding on the right color palette. Colors set the tone for your owner’s suite, and they add a very personal touch to your design while providing the foundation for the aesthetic. One of the most important and fool-proof rules when choosing a color palette is to opt for more neutral colors on your big-ticket items—such as wall color and furniture—for an owner’s suite that keeps a timeless design, but is always flexible enough to add in trends.

That being said, keeping a neutral color palette as your base allows for plenty of opportunity to incorporate fun and trendy pops of color or different patterns. If you really love pale blue, for instance, try adding a blue accent wall in the bathroom or incorporating blue accessories in your owner’s suite, such as throw pillows or a chair. Or, if vibrant orange is one of your favorites, use it throughout the accent decorations to optimize personality in your owner’s suite—while still remaining a designated place for a calm and restful retreat.

Decide on accents and accessories

After you’ve decided on an official color palette for your owner’s suite, it’s time to find accents and accessories to finalize your design. If earth tone accents are what you’re going for, try searching up terracotta and olive green room decor or burnt orange comforters and shams. If you’re wanting to incorporate texture, consider adding in a velvet chair in the corner for a reading nook, or think about adding patterned throw pillows across your bed for extra comfort. If brass accents are standing out to you, try looking for a gold lamp or gold wall decor to enhance your owner’s suite even more. Additionally, it's important to not forget about the bathroom or closet, especially if you want your owner’s suite to look and feel cohesive and unified.

This is where your mood board or list can come in handy, as it can be extremely helpful to see all of your potential pieces come together before actually purchasing them. While picking out decor, be sure to add art that you enjoy and family photos that mean a lot to you to make your owner’s suite truly yours. Even just a handful of accents and accessories can go a long way in your owner’s suite, and it’s important to remember that you have complete creative freedom when it comes to designing your room in a way that speaks to you the most.

Refresh the room

One of the best things about keeping your base neutral and timeless while adding in trendy accessories is that you can redesign and change your owner’s suite as frequently as you please. With ease, you can conveniently change the entire ambiance of your bedroom retreat, whether it changes with the seasons or every few years. Your owner’s suite is more than just a place where you sleep—it’s your own designated area in your home that is truly yours, and it provides a place for you to feel the utmost amount of comfort, relaxation and happiness.
