From Start to Finish—Understanding the Timeline of Building a New Home
Building your new home in DFW is an exciting journey that’s full of anticipation, creativity and fulfillment, however, navigating the process can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially if you’re unsure about the timeline involved. At Riverside Homebuilders, we understand the importance of clarity and transparency throughout the homebuilding journey, so read on as we take you step-by-step through the process of building your new home in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Phase 1: Pre-Construction
Before we begin breaking ground on your new home, there are a few items that need to be finalized. First, you’ll work with our onsite sales team to select your new home community in DFW and the homesite that you want to build on. Once you’ve made those selections, we’ll work with you to secure your financing—helping you explore different mortgage options to find the one that best fits your needs and budget.
After that, we’ll move into the design and planning phase, where you’ll work with our team of designers to choose some of the features and aesthetic details of your future home. This entire pre-construction stage could last up to a few months and involve multiple consultations, revisions and approvals in order for us to ensure that your vision is accurately captured in the home design.
Phase 2: Construction
WIth finances secured and the home design approved, the construction phase kicks off with site preparation—clearing the land and preparing the foundation of construction. Once the site is ready to go, the structural work begins, and this phase involves assembling the framework of your home, including walls, floors and the roof. Our skilled craftsmen meticulously work to ensure that the structural integrity of your home meets the highest standards of quality and safety, and as the structural work progresses, the attention begins to shift to the interior and exterior finishes. This phase includes installing insulation, drywall, roofing, siding, windows, doors and flooring, and it’s when you’ll truly start to see your home taking shape. Simultaneously, the plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems will be installed throughout this process to ensure that your home is equipped with essential utilities and amenities.
Throughout the entire construction phase, we encourage all of our homeowners to visit the site and check in on the progress—allowing you to see the transformation firsthand and ensuring that any questions or concerns you might have are addressed quickly. While the exact timeline of the construction phase can vary depending on factors such as weather or material delays, you can typically expect this portion to take a few months to complete.
Phase 3: Post-Construction
Once construction is finished, our team will go through quality assurance checks and inspections to ensure that every aspect of your new home in DFW meets our high standards. From structural integrity to finishing details, nothing is overlooked.
Before handing over the keys to your new home, we’ll conduct one final walk-through with you to address any remaining concerns or touch-ups. Once you’re satisfied with the results, it’s time for the closing process, where all legal financial formalities are completed, and ownership of the home is transferred to you. As you settle into your new surroundings, our team still remains available to address any post-construction needs or inquiries, ensuring that your transition to homeownership is smooth and seamless.

Hear From Our
Happy Homeowners
I would like to express my gratitude to Finnye Shipley and Jimmy Logan for their service during my homebuying experience. I am a first time homebuyer and they took great care of us. Their responsiveness and attention to detail is unmatched. They have continued to go above and beyond making us feel part of the community. They have been very helpful in some of the items needing attention after moving in. From the time that Jimmy showed us the house, I knew where we would be spending the next several years. I see Jimmy work late driving the neighborhood almost every day even there are only a handful of homes still for sale in the neighborhood.
I did not score a perfect scorecard on the survey, only because there were a few things that I am working on resolving with the home build. Sergio with the warranty department has been instrumental in fixing things that were needed.
Overall I am greatly satisfied with purchasing a Riverside home and look forward to working with you in the future. I hope this email will serve as a gold-star reflection of Finnye, Jimmy and Sergio. Their dedicated service should not go unnoticed.
